Dear [felizitas],
Thank you for serving as ambassador for the users. I appreciate your feedback.
Here are some updates:
We've made GEDCOM export include photos for free, for all Verwandt users, paying or not.
I hope this will restore some goodwill among the users.
We have had to stop poster printing and other product sales because Verwand't contract with the billing provider expired and we cannot keep it running (there are also logistics issues with the previous owners of Verwandt that I cannot go into detail about). So what we have done is made PDF exports in Verwandt free for all users, which they probably never were. So now users who need to print a poster can at least make free PDF export and take it for external printing. Poster prints at MyHeritage have been developed and will be launched in about 1-2 months and the Verwandt poster providers in Germany and Poland will be added so the good prices will be kept without shipping from more remote printers.
We've deleted the private notes. Most of them were not exported to MyHeritage to begin with, only notes of each tree creator were exported. Their inclusion was a mistake during the export/import process. We do not have the concept of private notes on MyHeritage, so it is better to delete them on MyHeritage (the original content is still on Verwandt and can be exported) than to keep this and have a security concern for the users. We are checking now, to make sure there are no remaining private notes that were not deleted.
We have fixed the handling of names of married women, incorrect default settings were applied to the trees in Anglo-Saxon way and these were corrected; we also enabled the changing of married name for women inside the family tree, and this information was imported well from Verwandt.
We removed the 'welcome message' that is displayed on MyHeritage when a person creates a new site, because this is not relevant for Verwandt users. We deleted the newsfeed messages about that person adding many photos, as this was a by-product of the import process and is also not relevant.
We are working on additional problems that were reported (we'll be looking next at partnerships vs. marriages, for example). We will also improve the communication, which was lacking at first because we were overwhelmed with work related to the transition.
There are some items that are new on MyHeritage and were not available on Verwandt.
I think it would be fair to mention them because there is more value that Verwandt users will be receiving, if they will bear patience with us.
* Better financial stability: company is profitable, raised $24m (6 times more than VW)
from best investors in Europe - Accel and Index, the investors of Facebook and Skype.
Chances that what happened at VW will occur again, are very low. If people will take their trees
and put them on other small startups, they will be taking such a risk again.
* Better and free Smart Matches, users will be able to make new discoveries. I am sure that once
we enable this on your tree, you will be able to make new discoveries and enlarge your tree.
* Better photo features: upload multiple photos, tag photos automatically, slideshows
* Share videos
* Share documents
* Timeline & Timebook (will be released tonight in special beta just for Verwandt users)
* Free, superior home edition software (Family Tree Builder) with unlimited capacity,
synchronized with the family site to publish updates
* Better family statistics, that are also free
* One person buying Premium gives Premium status to all people in same family tree
* Free PDF exports (we made them free on Verwandt too) with more genealogical chart types
* Better calendar with ability to add custom events; monthly view and year view
* Look-alike meter, celebrity collage, celebrity morph
* News articles with attachments
* 35 languages supported, not 10
* Larger development team. New features released at fast pace
Looking forward to additional feedback from you.
